modern banned list

Asked by wwhitegoldd 11 years ago

so I was watching youtube videos of the starcity Return to Ravnica pro tour modern tournaments and one of the videos was of a modern Izzet storm deck with Seething Song . And I remembered seeing Seething Song on the modern banned list a couple of months ago so, I thought that maybe it had been taken off. then I go look at the banned list on wizards.com and it's on the banned list. so my question is what the heck is the banned list.

This is the official banned list for the Modern format. Seething Song is banned in Modern.

Seething Song was banned in January of this year. What's the date of the video you were watching?

And the banned list is what it means, cards on the banned list can't be played in the format they are banned in.

I just noticed something else about your question. If you're watching PT RtR videos, Seething Song wasn't banned at the time. That PT took place in October of last year, but Seething Song was banned in January of this year.

Side Question: I'm not and have never been a modern player, but why ban this card and leave Dark Ritual in? Seems to me Dark Ritual could be more powerful being a 1st turn drop vs a 3rd turn drop with Seething Song . I know there's no restricted list in modern, but I think they should create one and move most (if not all) the banned cards onto that. Like in type 1 where all the best cards are just restricted to 1 and the banned cards are just anti cards and Chaos Orb none of which people would use anyways.

@Leafy024

Dark Ritual is not legal in Modern, as it was never printed in a Modern-legal set.

Thankyou for answering, as said I've never played that format, but I would have thought it would be in there somewhere. I wish wizards would reprint that card, but seeing as they seem to be trying to slow down type 2 I don't see it comeing any time soon.:( Fingers crossed for Hero's in feb. though:)

Oops, meant Born of the Gods. For some reason I keep thinking the new next set is called Hero's.
