Mind Grind Against Xenagos Challenge

Asked by BoromirOfGondor 9 years ago

In the most recent episode of "Friday Nights," Alex casts Mind Grind for 1 to defeat Xenagos. If a player were to cast Mind Grind against the Xenagos challenge deck, would this instantly mill Xenagos' entire library? Same goes for other "grind" cards (Balustrade Spy , etc).

Always check Gatherer before asking a question.

1/24/2013: If an opponent's library contains fewer than X land cards, all cards from that library are revealed and put into his or her graveyard.

Yes, Mill is one of the many ways to cheat a challenge deck. To be fair, the challenge decks should have some restrictions like, "no mill to X lands," and, "no control," and she have house rules like that, but for all intensive purposes, the challenge decks are really easy to cheat.

The rules of the Defeat a God Challenge deck don't make this a true instant-win. Xenagos only loses when his card leaves the battlefield. However, Xenagos won't be able to cast any more spells and depending on the board state he and his Revelers might not be able to attack anymore, so defeating him in future turns will be easy.

This does work against the Horde, which specifically loses when its library is empty. This doesn't work against the Hydra, which loses when there are no Heads left on the battlefield.
