Meteor Shower

Asked by runelord 13 years ago

I need some clarification on Meteor ShowerMTG Card: Meteor Shower is the first x damage and the second x number of targets? Does the x+1 apply to both x's? I'm just trying to see how this spell differs from a regular FireballMTG Card: Fireball

you choose a value for X. this value applies for both instances of X in the mana cost (and means you'll essentially pay double your value. So if you choose X =2 you'll pay 4R for the spell.)Then when the spell resolves it deals X+1 damage, divided as you choose between any number of target creatures and/or players. (note that targets, and the distribution of damage is determined during casting.)

I used to think this was a really good spell now I'm not so sure. So if i wanted to deal four damage i would have to tap one red 3 any colour and another 3 any colour for a total of 7 mana just for 4 damage divided anyway i choose

Correct. for dealing damage to a single target you are better off going with fireball.

And for dealing X damage divided among any number of targets, you're better off going with Rolling ThunderMTG Card: Rolling Thunder.

But hey, if you pay 0 for X you get a Scorching SpearMTG Card: Scorching Spear. At least Fireball can't do that. :-P

You can also target all of their illusions for 0 damage. :D
