Master Biomancer and Wolfir Silverheart

Asked by tehhoff 12 years ago

So if I have a Master Biomancer on the board then cast Wolfir Silverheart What is the ability order? Will Silverheart soulbound with him and make biomancer a 6/6 then biomancers ability give silverheart 6 +1+1 counters making the silverheart a 14/14?

Master Biomancer 's ability is a replacement effect that's applied as the creature is entering the battlefield, and Wolfir Silverheart 's soulbond is a triggered ability that doesn't trigger until the creature actually enters the battlefield. Biomancer's ability will always be applied first.

Master Biomancer's ability is not a triggered ability (which always begin with "when" "whenever" or "at"). It just affects how creatures enter the battlefield. By the time Wolfir Silverheart 's ETB ability triggers, he's already on the board with the 2 +1/+1 counters.

Don't feel dumb. MtG rules language can be strange and finicky sometimes, and the difference of an enters-the-battlefield trigger and a replacement effect that changes how things enter is one of the things that trip lots of people up. Plus, we all have to learn the rules sometime. Better here and now than breaking the rules at a tournament, right?
