Mana cost for tokens generated by Prototype Portal

I've recently started playing on Xmage and when putting a token on the field using Prototype Portal forces me to generate double the casting cost of the imprinted card.

i.e.: Prototype Portal + Sol Ring = (2),(T)

I thought that I would use (1) (which is the (X) for Sol Ring) Tap the Prototype Portal and put a token Sol Ring on the field. Which is what I interpreted the card text to mean.

If it had said "Play a copy of" I would understand.

If XMage makes you pay instead of , then it's a bug in the game, and it's best to report it.
