Mana Confluence and colourless mana?

If you tap Mana Confluence for colourless mana would it still cost you 1 life?

It has a single ability, to add one mana of any colour, so it can add white, blue, black, red, or green mana to your mana pool.

Mana Confluence doesn't have any abilities that aren't written on it. The same goes for other cards.

Mana Confluence 's only ability is ", Pay 1 life: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." This means you have to pick one of the five colors: white, blue, black, red, or green. Colorless is not a color, so you can't choose add colorless mana to your mana pool.

The pseudoexception to this is in Commander. You can choose to add a color of mana to your mana pool even if it is outside of your commander's color identity, but the Commander rules will replace that mana with colorless mana instead.
