Maelstrom Archangel and X cmc spells.

If I successfully attacked my opponent directly with a Maelstrom Archangel , then could I play Green Sun's Zenith for any amount for X?

If you play a X card without paying it's cost, X will be 0, not any amount.

Always check the Gatherer rulings in cases like this.

2/1/2009: If you cast a card with X in its cost this way, X must be 0.
