Lumberknot mass damage

if i have Lumberknot and i use Savage Twister and enough creatures will die to boost lumberknot enough to survive the twister does he get to live or does it die before the counters can be placed on him.
the reason i ask is i seem to remember getting screwed by this in the ps3 game with that earth creature

Savage Twister will kill Lumberknot. Lumberknot's ability is triggered and must go onto the stack. Before those abilities resolve, state-based actions will destroy Lumberknot for having lethal damage marked on it.

I believe that Lumberknot
will still die since the twister hits all the creatures then they die and then the ability wouuld trigger from Lumberknot
but since the damage was done before the ability triggered or resolved the lumberknot would die.
