Living Weapon EDH
Asked by skittles 13 years ago
So I have a Kemba, Kha Regent EDH deck, and I just clicked that living weapons create black creatures. Does that make them illegal to run in the deck?On a similar note, what about Nim Deathmantle that makes creatures black?
Also color identity cares about double faced cards.
The mana symbols and the 2nd face color dot are the only symbols that count for a color identity check. Any other word does not.
This is why you can use fetches that are only even if you do not use both of the basic land types scripted there.
Also the color words (black, red...) are not considered because there are many cards with protection. And "protection from black" is a perfect legal text for a white card in Kemba, Kha Regent deck

This was a really helpful post. Thanks, I didn't even think about from the "protection" side of the house. Makes total sense now.

A card's color identity is defined by the mana symbols in its mana cost and text box. A color word ("black" or "green," for example) is not counted for color identity.
Therefore, both Nim Deathmantle and living weapons are perfectly legal for a mono-white or otherwise non-black EDH deck.
