livewire lash v. spellskite

Asked by zigkid3 13 years ago

I have Livewire Lash attached to a creature. i pump it with an instant spell to trigger the lash's effect. my opponent uses Spellskite to make him the target of the spell.

does livewire lash still trigger, since my creature was at one point in time the target of the spell?

No your Livewire Lash does not trigger since at the time that the spell is cast, the Spellskite is activated targeting your spell. Once this happens, your creature is no longer the target of your spell, the Livewire Lash 's ability does not see your creature as a target so it doesn't go off.

Livewire Lash states that whenever the creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, its triggered ability will go on the stack. It became the target when you cast the spell and declared it as a/the target. Whether or not that spell resolves is irrelevant. The 2 damage ability will actually be on top of the stack above the instigating spell anyway, so it won't care.

oracle ruling for livewire lash

1/1/2011 When the equipped creature becomes the target of a spell, the ability granted to it by Livewire Lash will trigger and go on the stack on top of it. It will resolve before the spell does.

and i cant quote the rule but you have to choese a target before/as you put the spell or ability onto the stack

you also cant use spellkites ability before the spell is on the stack since you need a legal target for a spell or ability to cast or activate it

the ability from livewire lash goes onto the stack before anyone has a chance to respond
