Lightning Runner clarity

Since Lightning Runner has double strike, does that therefore mean he attacks twice and I gain 4 energy? Or does both hits count as a single attack? I need this to verify my deck: Rush of Energy

Lightning Runner only attacks once, unless you pay the 8 energy to get a second attack. Double strike has to deal with how damage is dealt when it attack. The ability only looks at "Whenever Lightning Runner attacks [...]" If it looked at "Whenever Lightning Runner deals combat damage [...]" it would trigger twice, provided it was able to deal damage twice. (Effects like Fog or a blocker being destroyed either as part of a spell or ability, or due to dying from first strike damage could cause it to deal damage fewer times, despite doublestrike).
