LEAVING PLAY WITH SLEEP IN EFFECT
Asked by IIIREMUSIII 13 years ago
FRIENDS AND I WERE PLAYING MTG I HAD CAST SLEEP ON A PLAYER ON MY TURN. DURING THE NEXT PLAYERS GO I WAS REMOVED FROM THE GAME.(NOT THE SAME PLAYER) DOES THE SLEEP EFFECT LEAVE PLAY WITH ME OR WILL IT STAY IN PLAY UNTILL IT IS FULLY RESOLVED
Wakalord is correct...
As Sleep simply states "Tap all creature targer player controls. Those creatures don't untap during that players next untap step." and doesn't state anything about this effect being removed if the caster was removed from the game, your opponent that was targeted by sleep will still be affected by the effect...

800.4a. When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist, and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who's still in the game.
Just for my clarification: 109.1. An object is an ability on the stack, a card, a copy of a card, a token, a spell, a permanent, or an emblem.
Nowhere in here does it mention static effects caused by spells. I'm pretty sure your sleep stays in effect.

As long as you cast your sleep and it resolves before you die it will still keep those creatures tapped.

It should stay in effect Until the effect is resolved. Sleep is a sorcery, wouldnt be negated like a enchant like Arrest just by being removed from the game.
