Kira, Great Glass Spinner and priority...

Asked by Samuel_The_Seer 11 years ago

If I happen to use Makeshift Mannequin to bring back Kira, Great Glass-Spinner from my graveyard, would Kira's counter ability have priority over the Mennequin?

Would I get to choose whether or not her (Kira) counters the spell first, or do I have to sacrifice her as soon as she gets targeted by an opponents spell?

"Priority" is only used to describe a player's right to cast spells and activate abilities. It never refers to spells and abilities themselves. There's no such thing as one ability having priority over another.

Makeshift Mannequin gives Kira, Great Glass-Spinner a triggered ability. When a spell or ability targets Kira, Great Glass-Spinner , both abilities will trigger (assuming it's the first spell or ability to target Kira, Great Glass-Spinner this turn).

Once on the stack, an ability exists independently of its source and independently of the event that triggered it. Additionally, whenever multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, those abilities are put onto the stack in APNAP order. If a single player controls multiple abilities, he or she will choose the order in which they are stacked.

Regardless of how you stack these abilities, Makeshift Mannequin 's ability will still resolve, and it will still force you to sacrifice Kira, Great Glass-Spinner . You need to counter the ability itself to prevent the sacrifice.

Neither has priority over the other. Both would trigger at the same time. While you are able to choose the order the triggered abilities go on the stack, the end result will be the same: Kira is sacrificed and the spell targeting her would be countered.

You can choose the order in which the abilities resolve. The will both will still resolve if you do

Okay, after you bring Kira, Great Glass-Spinner back, it will have 2 triggered abilities that trigger from the same thing.

If kira get's targeted by a spell or ability for the first time, since you control both triggers, you get to place the two triggers on the stack in any order that you choose.

They will resolve in the opposite order in which you place them on the stack.

*Kira's counter ability will still counter the spell/ability, even if Kira has already been sacrificed.
