Jeskai Ascendancy during combat

Asked by AspieForPeace 9 years ago

Jeskai Ascendancy says that when you cast a noncreature spell, all of your creatures get +1/+1 and untap. What happens if you cast an instant during the combat phase, such as before damage calculation? Do your attackers untap and lose the ability to finish their attack?

The act of untapping your creature does not remove it from combat. Yes, you can untap your creatures in this way, but they'll still deal damage as normal.

When you cast an instant (or any other noncreature spell), both abilities of Ascendancy trigger. You get to put them on the stack in any order, but they'll be on top of the instant you just cast, meaning they will resolve first.
When the first ability resolves, creatures you control at that time (so no Advent of the Wurm shenanigans) will get +1/+1 until end of turn, and you get to untap them.
As stated correctly before, untapping a creature doesn't affect whether it's attacking or not - only abilities that specifically say so, or events that remove a creature from combat, can do that.
