Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip and inclusion of card in deck.

Asked by Peanut3965 9 years ago

i want to use Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip, the problem is that he costs close on $80 ($100+ Australian about's) to pickup 1 of them and i honestly cant afford to spend the cash atm.

So to get around this I figure I should ask the question...

Do I actually need all 4 of him, or can i just have the 1 placeholder? by using the checklist card for my deck, i can "run" 4 of them, while only having the 1 Jace in the sideboard, ready to have on the field if i do end up playing the card..

additionally does the sleeves I'm suing have any bearing on this?, I'm using opaque, however to do this, do i also need to be running clear sleeves to be able to use the excuse for running the checklist cards.

Any information on this would be prime. Thanks :D

You need an actual card for every card in your deck that represents a double-faced card, whether you're playing with placeholder cards or not. The type of sleeves you use doesn't change that, however if you're playing with actual double-faced cards, you have to use opaque sleeves.

The purpose of a placeholder card is to do exactly what its name says: to hold the place of another card in your deck. They exist so that a deck without opaque sleeves can still be played legally if it contains double-faced cards.

Placeholder cards don't absolve you of the obligation to construct a legal deck. If you don't have four copies of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip, then you can't include four copies of it in your deck. The deck's construction must be legal without the placeholder cards; placeholder cards only affect the actual games themselves.

711.3b If a checklist card is used in a deck, the double-faced card it represents is set aside prior to the beginning of the game (see rule 103.1a) and must remain available throughout the game. A checklist card cant be included in a deck unless it is representing a double-faced card.

711.3c For all game purposes, the checklist card is considered to be the double-faced card its representing

Just like they said only all official like
