Is 0 still considered damage?

You have some 0/1 equipped with any of the swords, or Worldslayer , or any card like that. They have no creatures under their control. Does the artifact's special ability trigger when the supposed "0 damage" goes through? And the reminder text for trample reads: "If this creature would assign enough damage to its blockers to destroy them, you may have it assign the rest of its damage to defending player or planeswalker". You have a 4/4 trample, and they have a 1/4. Since you have enough to destroy the blocker, does the rest of the damage, 0, go through?

0 damage is no damage at all.
however if a 0/1 was equipped with Sword of War and Peace it would become a 2/3 from the equipment buff.
If a 4/4 trample was blocked by a 0/4 it would deal lethal damage to the defending creature and deal no damage to the defending player.

Damage causes loss of life, so if no life is lost, then no damage is dealt.

Zero combat damage is no combat damage. No combat damage triggers occur.
