Insolent Neonate and dredging the card that is discarded.

Asked by Pheardemons 7 years ago

If I discard a card with dredge to Insolent Neonate's ability, can that card be dredged for the card draw?

Might be a noob question, just not sure if there is anything I am missing as far as abilities go.

Yes. Dredge may be used to replace any time you would draw a card, even outside of your draw step, as long as you can meet the requirements for the Dredge.

From Gatherer:

  • Dredge lets you replace any card draw, not just the one during your draw step.
  • Once you decide to replace a draw using a cards dredge ability, that card cant be removed from your graveyard in response. (Replacement effects dont use the stack.)
  • You cant use dredge unless youre going to draw a card and the card with dredge is already in your graveyard.

I think what the op is asking is if he discards a Dakmor Salvage, can he then use that card to dredge the card he's about to draw.

If I'm right, you still can. Since discarding a card is part of the cost to activate the ability, Dakmor Salvage will already be in the graveyard when the ability resolves, allowing you to dredge that card right back to your hand.
