Infect and attacking abilities

Does the Infect counter (-1/-1 or poison) get placed before any other attacking abilities activate?
ex 1:If I attack with any Infect creature and thrumumingbird and thurmmingbird is unblocked so it gets to proliferate, will the -1/-1 counter(s) or Poison counter(s) from the Infect creature get added before I proliferate?or do I have a choice in the order?(would want to proliferate 2nd in this case)
ex 2:your Whispering Specter is unblocked and deals a Poison counter, you can choose to sacrifice it for its abilitiy. But if another creature with Infect also is unblocked, can you choose to have its counter added before the Specter's ability resolves and make the discard 1 more?
The combat damage step has 4 parts (rule 510):
First, players announce how their creatures are dealing damage (attacking player first, defending player second). This does not use the stack.
Second, all combat damage is dealt simultaneously. This does not use the stack.
Third, any abilities that trigger when combat damage is dealt are put on the stack.
Fourth, the active player receives priority.
Thus, combat damage is dealt before the triggered abilities can resolve. When Thrummingbird attacks, you get to proliferate after the damage has been dealt. Additionally, you may sacrifice Whispering Specter only after the damage has been dealt.

Combat damage has to be dealt in order for any on-damage abilities to trigger. This means that the poison counter from combat damage will already be on your opponent before any abilities even go on the stack, let alone resolve.
510.2. Second, all combat damage that's been assigned is dealt simultaneously. This turn-based action doesn't use the stack. No player has the chance to cast spells or activate abilities between the time combat damage is assigned and the time it's dealt. This is a change from previous rules.
510.3. Third, any abilities that triggered on damage being assigned or dealt go on the stack. (See rule 603, "Handling Triggered Abilities.")

damage is telt as -1-1 counters
the -1-1 counters are aplied at the same time normal combat damage would be aplied to there toughness
and poison counters would be appied at the same time combat damage would cause a player to lose life
to answer your first question the proliferate would happen after the -1-1 or poison counters are aplied
2nd on the specters ability only triggers if it deals damage to a player, by the time it triggeres the player would have recived a poison counter form the damage they just took,
so if you sack it the firs time it deals damage the player would have to discard at lest one card
