If you Opalescence with Humility, what now?

So if you cast Opalescence , then you cast Humility , then you cast another Opalescence , then another Humility , what happens?

There's a system of layers for sorting out how static effects interact with one another. For the ones relevant to your question: type changing effects are applied before ability granting/removing effects, which are applied before P/T changing effects. If more than one effect would apply in the same layer then you apply them in timestamp order (oldest first, then newer, and so on until newest), unless one of them is dependent on another in which case the dependent one is applied last.

  • You cast Opalescence . Everything behaves as expected.
  • You cast Humility . In the type layer, all enchantments become creatures (Opalescence). In the ability layer, creatures lose their abilities (Humility). This won't stop the rest of Opalescence's and Humility's effect from applying because the abilities started applying before they got removed. In the P/T layer, enchantment creatures first become X/X for their CMC (Opalescence), and then all creatures become 1/1 (Humility).
  • You cast another Opalescence. The situation is the same as above, except enchantment creatures end up at X/X for their CMC.
  • You cast another Humility. The end result is the same as 1 Opalescence and 1 Humility.
