If I use Tainted Strike on my Thrummingbird, does it infect for 2 and then proliferate all at once?

Asked by Nightwielder 14 years ago

In other words, am I allowed to proliferate the poison to make it 3 counters instead of 2?

Yes, the infected Thrummingbird deals 2 infect damage, which triggers his ability, allowing you to deal a third poison counter.

Speaking of Thrumming bird, can I proliferate poison counters on the opponent with him if an infect creature is dealing the first poison counters to that opponent in the same attack?

I believe so, since damage happens all at once and Thrummingbird 's abilitiy still triggers.. I don't see why not. Someone confirm this please.

Yes, that's correct.

Think of it this way: Infectors don't take away life, they put poison counters on; the counters are a result of damage.

Thrummingbird 's ability is a triggered ability that triggers whenever it deals damage.

So in order for Thrummingbird 's ability to trigger at all, that means damage has to have been assigned already this combat step, which means your opponent has the poison counters.
