If I put a charge counter on Sphinx-Bone Wand would it still deal damage even if i didnt cast an instant or sorcery?

If I have Sphinx-Bone Wand in play, and I use Vedalken Infuser to put a charge counter on it, or if it already has counters and I proliferate with Contagion Engine would it steal activate the damage or do I have to cast a sorcery or instant to have it deal damage?

You must cast the instant/sorcery (and add the counter) to deal the damage. However, the proliferation just amps up the damage.

With Contagion Engine & Vedalken Infuser you'll only put more counters on Sphinx-Bone Wand .

This will cause no immediate damage, only increase the N of counters on the Wand and consequently increase the damage you'll do when you activate the Wand by playing an instant or sorcery.

Yea, afraid so man. Still not bad though with enough proliferation. Makes it borderline playable in an architect deck at least.
