If I play two Tuktuk the Explorers, can I get a free TukTuk the Returned?
Asked by lawguy 11 years ago
I'm not 100% sure how the legendary rule works. For example, if I have a Tuktuk the Explorer on the field and play another one, does the first go to the graveyard?
Second, how does the resolution work with that? Can I sacrifice him for a Goblin Grenade before he has to go to the graveyard?
Thanks!
Ok third question...
Is Tuktuk the Returned legendary as well? The ability on Tuktuk the Explorer doesn't specify, but the Returned token I have says "Legendary Artifact Creature"
what do you think?

Actually, the ability on Tuktuk the Explorer does specify.
When Tuktuk the Explorer is put into a graveyard from the battlefield [(dies)], put a legendary 5/5 colorless Goblin Golem artifact creature token named Tuktuk the Returned onto the battlefield.

So basically, it would probably be better to Goblin Grenade the first one before casting your second Tuktuk the Explorer .

Yeah agreed. However it's good to know that, if i don't have a Goblin Grenade , I can switch one Tuktuk the Explorer for the other; a 5/5 3-drop isn't the worst thing you can have.

So, if you put a Splinter Twin on the card (not the token), can you get a (legendary) 5/5 every turn?

@Hunted0Less: You should ask a new question instead of posting in an old one. This question was resolved almost a year ago.
Yes. Because of the M14 rules update, you keep one of a legendary permanent, so you can keep the original (which is enchanted by Splinter Twin ), and the other one will give you the token when it dies.

Since the M14 rules update, the situation will play out like this:
The second Tuktuk the Explorer enters the battlefield under your control. Next, as a state-based action (i.e. before you receive priority), you choose one Tuktuk the Explorer . You put the other copy into its owner's graveyard. As a result, the second ability of that Tuktuk the Explorer will trigger. When that ability resolves, it will give you a token of the specified characteristics.
Because the legend rule is a state-based action, you don't receive priority to cast Goblin Grenade before one of the Tuktuk the Explorer s is put into its owner's graveyard.
