No; when it's outside the game it actually ceases to exist as a creature and simply becomes a creature card.
So when you exile a creature its "clock" stops counting down and gets reset when it comes back into play. If you use Nova Chaser to exile Ball Lightning , when Chaser dies, you'd get the Ball Lightning for another turn.
Now, there is something to note: Tokens cease to exist in total as soon as they enter a zone other than the battlefield. They do go to the appropriate zone (so a token will still hit the graveyard if it's destroyed) but they're immediately removed by state-based actions.
This means if you use Chaser to exile a token from Zektar Shrine Expedition or Elemental Appeal it will cease to exist as soon as it hits the exile zone, so there won't be a token to return later. Chaser won't have a problem, it just means that she won't return anything.

Wow, okay cool! I was hoping that it would work like that but I didn't know that tokens worked like that in the exile zone too. I knew about the graveyard but I didn't realize it extended to other zones.

Nope, you won't have to sacrifice it since the elemental that has been championed is no longer in play.
