hushwing gryff and hyrda counters

so heres the situation, i control a Corpsejack Menace, and i cast a Primordial Hydra for 
= 2 expecting to get the double counters. my buddy flashes in Hushwing Gryff stating that it wont get the double counters since its entering the battlefield. was he correct?

Primordial Hydra's ability which gives it counters as it enters the battlefield is not a triggered ability, so Hushwing Gryff does not affect it. Likewise, Corpsejack Menace has no triggered abilities, so it works normally too. The Gryff has no effect on this situation.
Remember, triggered abilities always include "When," "Whenever," or "At". The only ability here which is triggered is the counter-doubling ability of the Hydra, which triggers during upkeep and so isn't affect by the Gryff anyway.
