How does Wall of Reverence work with Angelic Accord?

Asked by Sofeeya1984 10 years ago

Will i get a 4/4 angel from Angelic Accord if i gain life because of the Wall of Reverence effect or does the Wall of Reverence Effect take place after Angelic Accord?

please link cards: Angelic Accord, Wall of Reverencei do believe you do. once Wall of Reverence resolves, Angelic Accord will trigger and resolve before your turn ends

I'm afraid that swkelly89 is incorrect.

From the Angelic Accord Gatherer page:

7/1/2013: If you havent gained 4 or more life during the turn when the end step begins, the ability wont trigger at all. Gaining life during the end step wont cause the ability to trigger.

Wall of Reverence's ability will trigger at the beginning of your end step, but since you did not gain life during your turn, Angelic Accord's ability will not trigger.

Angelic Accord's ability has what's called an intervening "if" clause. Triggered with this clause behave differently from other triggered abilities.

Normally, a triggered ability triggers whenever the defined trigger event occurs. IIC abilities trigger when the trigger event occurs, but only if the IIC condition is also true. Furthermore, when the ability resolves, it only performs the prescribed actions if the IIC is still true.

In this case, Angelic Accord's ability only triggers at the beginning of the end step and only if you gained 4 or more life before that point. If you haven't gained 4 or more life before the beginning of the end step, the ability won't trigger. Remember also that any events that occur in the end step are, by definition, past the beginning of the end step and cannot cause abilities like Angelic Accord's to retroactively trigger.

And, as always, check the Gatherer rulings before asking a question.
