How does Homeward Path interact with Mind Control?

Supposing my opponent has a Our Market Research Shows That Players Like Really Long Card Names So We Made this Card to Have the Absolute Longest Card Name Ever Elemental on the battlefield, and I cast Mind Control on it. After the Mind Control comes down, he uses Homeward Path . Does he gain control of his Elemental back? Or do I retain control because I still control the Aura and it provides a static effect? Or does it go back to his control then come back to mine or some weird thing like that?

The last effect to take place takes precedence. This is set up in layers or interactions of continuous effects. Rule 613 of the CR. Specifically this is applied in layer 2. When effects takes place in the same layer timestamp order is applied.
