How does Crucible of Worlds work with Fetches
Asked by APPLE01DOJ 11 years ago
Need a little further explanation of Crucible of Worlds .
Specifically what does the term "Play" mean? Does it mean I can activate a fetch from the graveyard and place another land into the battlefield. Or does it simply mean I can put the fetch into play from graveyard.
The reason I'm asking is because if I could activate it from the graveyard it would net another land per turn per fetch in the grave.

The problem is If crucible allowed you to use the ability from the GY you could empty your deck of lands since you would tap the one in the GY (that isn't even a legal action) and sacrifice it (you can only sacrifice permanents) sending it to the GY untapped (again only permanents have a tapped or untapped status so that isn't even a thing) allowing you to do it again.

"Playing" a land is a special ability you can do once per turn that involves putting a land into the battlefield under your control.
Basically, the ability of fetches can only be used if they are on the battlefield but you may put one on the battlefield with Crucible of Worlds if you would rather do that than play one from your hand.
