How do Mirrorpool and Mutavault interact?
Asked by alanwescoat 8 years ago
Situation: I activate Mutavault. It is a 2/2 creature with all creature types. It is also a land with the ability to tap for mana. I sacrifice Mirrorpool, targeting Mutavault. I get a token Mutavault.
Now, it seems to me that the properties of the token Mutavault will be slightly different from the properties of the actual Mutavault. I do not think it will cease being a creature at the end of the turn, unless mana is spent to activate its ability to become a creature.
Am I correct?

Thanks. I guess I did not read far enough into the rulings. So, it will copy Mutavault, but the token Mutavault will not be activated as a creature. Got it.

The token will be an unanimated Mutavault.
From the Gatherer Rulings:
1/22/2016: For Mirrorpools last ability, the token copies exactly whats printed on the original creature and nothing else (unless that creature is copying something else; see below). It doesnt copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.
1/22/2016: For example, if a token copies a Plains thats been affected by a spell with awaken, the token will be just a land, even though the object being copied is currently a land creature. The same is true if the land has an ability that animates it.
