Honorable Passage vs Searing Blaze

Asked by Renaud 7 years ago

If I cast Honorable Passage targeting a Searing Blaze; would Honorable Passage prevent the 6 damage, or just 3?

I'm assuming 6, but in the case it's 3, which damage does it prevent? The one to the creature or to the player?

There is one single source attempting to deal 6 damage. 6 damage would be prevented and will be dealt to the controller of the source of damage.

The fact that the damage is split between two targets has no effect on Honorable Passage.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure since it din't say "and/or" but I suppose that's because it's an older card :)

Note that Honorable Passage does not target the spell. It targets a creature or player. You choose a source, which is not the same as targeting.

Honorable Passage does have the word "target"! I read it is as "a"...

... which changes everything. You can only prevent the damage to either the creature or the player you target with HP, so it will be 3 damage prevented and subsequently dealt in either case.
