Help with control over Daring Thief
Asked by riunp4k3r 8 years ago
I have Daring Thief which lets me swap 2 cards. I was wondering if I used Dominating Licid, could I take control back of the card I gave away, then turn the licid back into a creature, would I retain control of my card, since I am the owner? Could I possibly use this ability to steal all of my opponents creatures one turn at a time, or faster for 4 mana?
You can however use Dominating Licid to gain control of a creature, then use Daring Thief to trade the stolen creature for another one, and detach the licid as it's no longer doing anything.

Thanks to both of you for answering my question so quickly and clearly, and thanks for the tip on how to steal my opponents creatures permanently.

no, continuous control effects, like the one from daring thief, are always "active" until the permanent leaves the field. If a static ability (say one from an enchantment in play), leaves play or a control effect ends(like at end of turn), control goes back to player who has the last control effect that has not ended yet.
you have one time effects - like destroy effects
you have static effects, such as from an enchantment.
and you have continuous effects that last either until the end of the game, or until the effect says it ends.
these last two are where control changing effects are at. When a control changing effect ends, the last person who had a control effect that has not ended. gets it back.
