Flip-Walkers reverting after death

Asked by khaos2639 9 years ago

When a flip-walker dies... do they stay a planeswalker, or do they revert to being a creature?

I'm specifically looking at adding in Return to the Ranks to my current white deck Taxes, just because (6-1 @ Game Day) and I'm curious whether I will be able to bring back Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip.

To add on to my question, because apparently I can't figure out how to edit my question anymore.... if Kytheon were to flip into Gideon... and then was destroyed in his planeswalker state... could Return bring him back

Unless one of them is transformed and on the battlefield, it is in its untrasnformed (creature) state. A Kytheon is always a Kytheon except when on the battlefield as Gideon. So, yes, Return to the Ranks will bring back Kytheon.

The above answer applies in general to all Innistrad-type transformers (like you're inquiring about) and Kamigawa block flip cards (e.g.: Erayo, Soratami Ascendant). When they are not on the battlefield, they are always in their "default" state, which you can usually identify by the mana symbols being where they are supposed to be.
