Flashback + Remand

Asked by Ree 13 years ago

Will Remand return a card to my/my opponent's hand if the card is being cast by its flashback cost or is it still exiled as per the flashback cost?

It will still be exiled, as per the rules of flashback.

702.32a Flashback appears on some instants and sorceries. It represents two static abilities: one that functions while the card is in a player's graveyard and the other that functions while the card is on the stack. "Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack." Casting a spell using its flashback ability follows the rules for paying alternative costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2eg.

Ah, thank you.

This came up in a set of Modern testing with friends as I was trying out a Past in Flames deck.

They really need to add something to that effect to the reminder text. Sort of how they did with Unearth (Sedris, the Traitor King ). "Remove it from the game at end of turn or if it would leave the play."

My play group got into the same argument over counterspelling, the other side claiming that as it is worded on the cards, it would not be there (on the stack) when the flashback would finish resolving to exile it. We had to look it up in the rules to prove it. I don't know about you but having to put a match on pause to for a rule look up really kills the fun and many times leaves one side or the other a little sour.
