Exalted Geist of Saint Traft

If I were to attack with a Geist of Saint Traft with a Giltspire Avenger on the field, would exalted trigger before the angel token comes in to play?

Yes.
The trick with things like Exalted - and anything else that triggers "when a creature attacks," like Preeminent Captain or Raid Bombardment - is that the verbage of "when a creature attacks" is actually very specific. It means "this creature [or "a creature"] was declared as an attacker by tapping it," rather than caring about how many creatures are actually in the Red Zone.
The Angel token, however, is put into play "tapped and attacking," but it is never declared as an attacker. It's an attacking creature (for the purposes of things like Rebuke , for instance), but it didn't attack this turn because it wasn't tapped and declared as an attacker in the first step of combat. Therefore, only the Geist itself attacked this turn and it gets any relevant Exalted bonuses.
(This is also why Preeminent Captain can allow a creature with defender to exist as an attacker, for one combat step - defenders can't attack, but the Captain just puts them onto the field attacking so they never attacked as per the game's specific verbiage.)

both abilities would be put on the stack at the same time in this case it doesn't matter in which way they resolve because both effects will occur.
first you swing with Geist of Saint Traft and that triggers both Giltspire Avenger 's exalted ability and geist's ability now you get an angel then geist gets +1+1 until end of turn or vise versa they both work.
