Evolve and Soulbonding
Asked by my_gizmo 12 years ago
Let's say I have a Gyre Sage at and a 1/1 token on the battlefield. If I were to play a Wolfir Silverheart , boding it with the token, would Gyre Sage 's evolve be triggered since the Silverheart would enter as an 8/8?
But doesn't evolve have an intervening if clause, meaning it wouldn't trigger. (Unless the gyre sage has a power or toughness of less than four, in which case I don't see the point of this question.)

The question never states the P/T of Gyre Sage , so that's a good point. Because Wolfir Silverheart ETBs as a 4/4, Gyre Sage 's evolve ability would not trigger unless either its power or toughness were less than four.

Wolfir Silverheart does not enter the battlefield as an 8/8. It enters the battlefield as a 4/4, and its soulbond ability triggers simultaneously with Gyre Sage 's evolve ability.
Because you control both triggered abilities, you put them onto the stack in whichever order you prefer. In this case, it doesn't matter which ability resolves first because Wolfir Silverheart will still have a higher P/T than Gyre Sage . Evolve will put a +1/+1 counter on Gyre Sage .
