Endless Whispers and Manlands

If Endless Whispers is out and I swing with a Inkmoth Nexus, but it dies. Will inkmoth stay in my graveyard or go under an opponents control?

The oracle text makes the answer a bit clearer.

Each creature has "When this creature dies, choose target opponent. That player puts this card from its owner's graveyard onto the battlefield under his or her control at the beginning of the next end step.

In short, an opponent WOULD gain control of the Inkmoth Nexus or any other manland that died. Endless Whispers only cares if the card is a creature when it dies, not while it is in the graveyard or what card types are printed on it.

metalmagic Wouldn't a land in a graveyard regardless of it was previously a creature stay a land type?

Or should I be focusing on "That player puts this CARD from its owner's graveyard onto the battlefield" part?

I just thought that as soon as it hit the graveyard, before the ability triggered that the change in type would override the ability before it could resolve.

Zimmers_0 so basically when any card dies, the game uses what we call 'last known information' to determine certain things, and this includes triggered abilities. The last known information of a card that has died is derived from any characteristics the card had the moment right before it was put into a graveyard from play.

Let's say you had also used Pendelhaven's activated ability to make your Inkmoth a 2/3 before it died. The last known information the game will have of your Inkmoth at this point is that it was a Colorless 2/3 Artifact Creature Land with Flying and Infect. Since the land was also a creature when it died, that will trigger Endless Whispers.

In short, cards like this generally care what the card was when it was in play, NOT when it is in the graveyard. I hope this helped, and if you are still confused I can try to give a more in-depth explanation.

Ok I lied haha. Endless Whispers doesn't get triggered by anything. The creature itself is the card that triggers. Everything else is the same.

@metalmagic: While we're talking specific, it's not the creature that triggers either, but the ability given to the creature by Endless Whispers :)

BlueScope very true haha. However in this instance I think the creature WAS indeed triggered by its owner just giving it to whom it has been fighting so diligently against.
