Elvish Mystic

Asked by Silentfrowny 11 years ago

I tried doing this in a game, and my friend said I cant do that, I want to get help plz.

I have a Elvish Mystic on the field with nothing else, all my lands are tapped, and I have a Giant Growth in my hand. My opponent attacks with his 3/3 whatever, and I declare my Elvish Mystic as a blocker, then tap him to add 1 floating forest and use that to cast Giant Growth on him making my Elvish Mystic a 4/4.

Can I do this?

Yes, you can use the mana from Elvish Mystic to Giant Growth it, and yes, it will continue to block a creature even if it is tapped after being declared a blocker.

Sidenote: you get 1 green mana from Elvish Mystic, not a Forest. Mana is not the same as land.

you seem to have a good grasp on it but I think it's important to point out that you must declare blockers first before you tap it for mana. If you tap it for mana before blockers are declared then it will be tapped and unable to block. I just thought it would be good to point out that there is a difference between becoming tapped after declaring blockers and trying to block with a tapped creature, as that is most likely the confusion. Your friend is probably aware that you can't block with a tapped creature so he's probably under the impression that if it were to become tapped for mana then it couldn't be blocking because tapped creatures can't block.
