Eldrazi Displacer and Startled Awake  Flip

Asked by DrLitebur 9 years ago

Here is an odd question. If I use Eldrazi Displacer to blink Persistent Nightmare  Flip, the flipped version of Startled Awake  Flip, what happens? Do I get a free recasting of the spell? Or does it just go to the graveyard? Or does it remain on the battlefield tapped? I know what I am hoping happens, but I suspect I know.

it returns to the battle field as Persistent Nightmare  Flip because Eldrazi Displacer checks what Persistent Nightmare  Flip was before it was exiled.

That's incorrect.

When a card changes zones, it reverts to its default state and is treated as a new object. Exiling Persistent Nightmare  Flip causes it to revert to Startled Awake  Flip. Because Startled Awake  Flip is a sorcery, it can't enter the battlefield and will remain in exile. Nothing suggests that you would be able to cast it.

That's what I was afraid of. That makes it not as good as I was hoping, but I will be able to work with it otherwise. Thank you Epochalyptik. Just means Eldrazi Displacer won't be blinking my nightmare.
