Does Tideshaper Mystic remove abilities?

Asked by chosenone124 7 years ago

My opponent has a Ghost Quarter. If I activate Tideshaper Mystic on it, does that mean it can't activate the land destruction effect for the turn?

Tideshaper seems to be worded similarly to Blood Moon

Yes. If an effect just says a land becomes one of the basic types without also saying "in addition to its other types", then the land loses all other abilities from its rules text. Of course, your opponent can always respond by activating Ghost Quarter before it loses its abilities.
