Does the ability of Stormtide Leviathan

My friend has Stormtide Leviathan . He claims that when this creature dies his ability "all lands are islands in addition to their other types, and all creatures without flying or islandwalk can't attack" continues to exist after the creature is dead. Is this true?

No. Abilities of permanents only function while they are on the battlefield, unless otherwise stated (like Tymaret, the Murder King 's ability to bring himself back from the grave or Ghor-Clan Rampager 's Bloodrush ability). If the Leviathan dies, lands stop being Islands, and all the dudes that can attack can attack.
