Does protection from blue stop AEtherize?

Asked by jmart1079 11 years ago

Scenario:My opponent attacks with multiple creatures. One is Mistcutter Hydra . I cast AEtherize in response. Do ALL creatures go back to their owner's hand including the hydra?

Yes.

Protection stops things according to the mnemonic 'DEBT'

Protected things can't be:

Damaged
Enchanted/Equipped
Blocked
Targeted

By spells or abilities with that quality.

AEtherize does none of those things, so Protection is ineffective.

Stort answer: Protection will not help in this case.

Long answer: Protection only works against the following things which are easy to remember under an acronym DEBT. They are: Damage, Echanting/Equipping, Blocking, Targeting. Since AEtherize does not attempt to do any of these, it will affect creatures with protection.
