Does Overwhelming Stampede continually checks the power and toughness of each creature as the turn progresses due to the "end of turn" part in it?

So, I was killed by 10 16/16 saprolings and I am pretty sure I shouldn't have. But the victor insists it works this way.
Timbermaw Larva was a 2/2, he cast two giant growths on it making it a 8/8. Then when he attacked it became a 15/15. He claims that Overwhelming Stampede continually checks the power and toughness of each creature as the turn progresses due to the 'end of turn' part in it.
Should I have died this time?
*((I am not 100% on these number, I am just kinda making them up as I don't recall exactly what they were, but it is close enough.))
It took me a little but found the rule:
611.2d If a resolving spell or ability that creates a continuous effect contains a variable such as X, the value of that variable is determined only once, on resolution. See rule 608.2g.

You're right
The effect of Overwhelming Stampede is taken at the moment it resolves. If Timbermaw Larva 's power was the greatest in your opponent's creatures, then they would get +6/+6 until end of turn, including the Larva. A good way of calling his flaw was to point out that if the effect continued to check the power then the spell would continue to power up the Larva and continue to check it's increased power giving more and more and more power.
