Does Myriad trigger for an exchanged and attacking Ninjutsu creature
Asked by LadyTyche 2 years ago
In the new Commander Legends the enchantment [[Legion Loyalty] gives every creature the player controls Myriad. Myriad specifies that every attacking creature, that player creates a token copy of the creature which is tapped and attacking.
Ninjutsu's ability reads as follows "Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card onto the battlefield from your hand tapped and attacking."
Imagine a scenario where player A attacks player B, and because of this Myriad creates a copy. Player C does not block the attack and via Ninjutsu the unblocked creature gets exchanged with another creature, say Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow. Yuriko is now attacking player C, but does this trigger Myriad on Yuriko creating a token copy for player B, AFTER the blockers are declared?

Myriad is an attack trigger. Attack triggers only trigger on the declare attackers step as a result of creature being declared as an attacker as a turn-based action. You will not get Myriad copies for a creature put in tapped and attacking with Ninjutsu.
702.116a Myriad is a triggered ability that may also create a delayed triggered ability. “Myriad” means “Whenever this creature attacks, for each opponent other than defending player, you may create a token that’s a copy of this creature that’s tapped and attacking that player or a planeswalker they control. If one or more tokens are created this way, exile the tokens at end of combat.”
508.3a An ability that reads “Whenever [a creature] attacks, . . .” triggers if that creature is declared as an attacker. Similarly, “Whenever [a creature] attacks [a player or planeswalker], . . .” triggers if that creature is declared as an attacker attacking that player or planeswalker. Such abilities won’t trigger if a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking.
