Does infect only apply with combat damage?

The reason I ask is this.I have a nekusar EDH and what will happen when I enchant Nekusar, the Mindrazer with Phyresis ?Will the infect work with this.because when it does it's so overpowered.

That works. Infect, like lifelink and deathtouch, applies to all damage dealt by the creature. Just be warned that if you use Phyresis on a Nekusar, the Mindrazer in a 5 player game of EDH, you will have 4 less friends by the end of it. :D
