Does Hexproof still apply in the Graveyard?

Asked by megawurmple 11 years ago

For example, my opponent has Geist of Saint Traft in the Graveyard and I control a Dimir Doppelganger . Can I use the Doppelganger's ability to copy the Geist or is it not possible because the Geist has Hexproof and the ability requires targeting?

You can target Geist of Saint Traft and other creatures with Hexproof while they are in a graveyard.

702.11b. "Hexproof" on a permanent means "This permanent can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control."

When Geist of Saint Traft is in a graveyard, it is not a permanent. Hexproof only applies while it is on the battlefield.

Note that creature cards in graveyards (and all zones other than the battlefield) are not creatures, they are creature cards.
