Does Fog bank prevent damage from a creature with wither

Asked by Shameous 9 years ago

Me and my cousin were playing and he attcked with Juvenile Gloomworm which has reach and wither and I went to block with fog bank which prevents all combat damage.. How does that work? Will fog bank take the -1/-1 counters or does he prevent it.. I figured wither is still combat damage because it's a result of a creature attacking.

the creature doesnt deal any combat damage to fog bank so it cant deal any combat damage in form of -1/-1.

Fog Bank will prevent the damage and no -1/-1 counters will be placed on it. The key thing to know here is that wither doesn't replace damage with something else. Rather, it changes the result of damage being dealt. Normally, dealing damage to a creature results in that much damage being marked on the creature. Wither changes the result to that many -1/-1 counters being placed on the creature.
