Does Eyeblight Massacre trump buffs?

Asked by BornToDie 7 years ago

I wasn't sure how to word it. But, if you have, for instance, 3 Zombie Cannibal and 1 Death Baron out.. Your opponent throws an Eyeblight Massacre do all 4 creatures get put in the graveyard or just Death Baron?

All of them would go.

Eyeblight Massacre applies a static -2/-2 to all non-elf creatures that lasts until the end of the turn. This includes as a creature's P/T changes from other things. When the Death Baron dies from the Massacre, your Zombie Cannibals lose the buff it provides, making them 1/1's again. However, since the -2/-2 is still active, they would actually be -1/-1 creatures and go to the graveyard as a state-based action for having 0 or less toughness.

It's also worth noting that the Zombies you had in the example were only 2/2's even with the Death Baron buff, but say that you had 2/2 Zombie tokens instead and the situation above would apply, this time instead having the tokens reduced to 0/0 after the Death Baron buff is taken away.

Sorry about that. It's been a long day.. Either way, I did get the answer I was looking for and I appreciate it. I thought the buffed zombies lost the buff, then took the -2/-2. But wanted to make sure I understand that right.

Been play testing two of my decks, and I am pretty happy with the outcome. Only thing I was a bit fuzzy on was that.
