Does equiping a creature count as targeting it?

Does equiping a creature count as targeting it? If it does, then there's a cool combo with puresteel paladin and livewire lash to win.

Two Spellskite s and a Livewire Lash then casting a target spell will though.

114.9a Just because an object or player is being affected by a spell or ability doesnt make that object or player a target of that spell or ability. Unless that object or player is identified by the word "target" in the text of that spell or ability, or the rule for that keyword ability, its not a target.
The above quote points out the flaw in spartanwolfej's assumption. However:
702.6a Equip is an activated ability of Equipment cards. "Equip [cost]" means "[Cost]: Attach this permanent to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery."
Equip is a targeted ability.

Yes, equipping is an ability, so when you equip something, the equipment targets that creature. As for the combo you are probably thinking of, Livewire Lash only works with spells, so abilities (such as equipping) wouldn't trigger it.
