does casting a protection instant on a blocked ichorclaw myr interfere with the +2/+2 bonus gain?
Asked by Chino90 9 years ago
what happens if i declare Ichorclaw Myr as an attacker, the opponent declares a blocker blocking him, and i cast Apostle's Blessing on it. Does he get the +2/+2?
Once blockers are declared, any blocked creature will remain blocked for the duration of combat. Neither granting a creature protection nor making it unblockable after it is already been declared to be blocked will change the blocked status. SO the +2/+2 will apply, and the blocking creature's damage will be prevented due to the protection.

Protection applies an effect that both allows the object with protection immunity of damage from the object of which it has protection, and an effect that forces the object to be unable to be blocked by any objects that have the trait of the protection variable. So say you declare the myr as an attacker. If you play apostle's blessing before the declare blockers phase, it cannot be blocked, and therefor does not recieve the effect, but if you cast blessing after the declare blockers phase, and before the damage phase, the declaration of the block has already resolved, and the effect will remain active, so the myr still gets the bonus, but the blocking creature cannot deal damage to the myr.

It will retain the +2/+2 as it is still blocked.
