Does Ajanis chosen tokens duplicate auras?
Asked by petters 11 years ago
If I have an Ajani's Chosen on the battlefield and use an aura like etheral armor on a creature, does the aura end up on both the creature I put it on AND the token? Or is Ajani's Chosen simply giving me the option to put the aura on the token INSTEAD of the first creature?
You mean placing the aura on the token instead? well that sucks...are you sure?

yep. nowhere does it say to copy the aura, just that you may attach the aura to the token

Yes. You don't get two of them. If you did, then it would be so derpy. The reason I know is because it's below $10

An effect only does as much as it says, and Ajani's Chosen just says you can choose to attach the aura to the token you just made. An aura can only be attached to one thing at a time so if you choose to do that then it's not attached to whatever you were initially casting it on.

Not only that, but if it allowed you to copy the aura, it would create an infinitely large loop, as another enchantment would be entering the battlefield...

The advantage of changing targets of auras is to counteract a two-for-one situation where an opponent, while the enchantment is on the stack, uses an instant to kill the target creature, making you waste mana and an enchantment.
I didn't get it at first either, someone explained it to me like that.

It would still be possible to 2 for 1, the enchantment hasn't entered the battlefield until after the spell for it on the stack resolves.

your opponent can just wait to see if you decide to move it, then destroy the creature with the enchantment on it and 2 for 1 you

The latter.
