Do you have to have a "hand" to sac Bomat Courier?

With Courier, it states to tap a mountain, discard your hand, and sac . If you have no cards in hand, can you still tap the land and sac to get the new hand or do you have to wail until you have cards in hand? Thanks.

Thank you. I have played casual home games for years and I'm trying to learn all the tournament rules. While I did know that you could get red from other sources, I think my wording needs some work. So the answer, then, is that I can activate the ability even if I have 0 cards in hand. Much appreciated.

Yes.
From the Gatherer Rulings: 9/20/2016 You can pay the cost of discard your hand even if your hand contains zero cards.
You always have a hand, even if it's empty.
Also I might note, small detail, it asks you to pay one red mana, not tap a mountain. This is actually an important distinction, as there's many sources other than Mountains that produce red mana.
